Police arrested a local leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, from Andarkillah Library Market area of the port city on Monday on charge of arson and vandalism.
The arrestee was identified as Mahbubur Rahman, president of Kotwali thana unit Shibir.
Another report adds:Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge AKM Mahiuddin Selim said a team of police arrested Mahbubur from the market around 1:00pm.
There were eight cases, including for arson and vandalism, filed with different city police stations against the leader, added the OC.
Kotwali thana police under CMP rounded up President of Kotwali thana unit Md. Mahbubur Rahman yesterday morning. Mahbubur Rahman was arrested from library market of Anderkilla Jame Masjid . He was allegedly involved with the anarchy, voilance and vandalism before the national polls. He was also shouldering 8 criminal cases . Kotwali thana police rounded up him from the market area at about 11 am . Acting on secret information, police conducted raid in the area.
