Two officials caught in ACC net for taking bribe

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against two employees of the Department of Social Services for allegedly accepting bribe of Tk 56 lakh from various candidates.
ACC District Combined Office-1 Deputy Director Monaim Hossain filed the case as a plaintiff on Monday (January 10).
Confirming the matter, Deputy Director
(Public Relations) Muhammad Arif Sadeq said that a case has been filed against tow employees of the Social Department for accepting bribe of Tk 57 lakh from Mehedi Hasan and some other candidates and their relatives.
The accused were identified as the chief Assistant of the Department of Social Services Golam Faroque and senior Assistant Mahmudul Hasan Selim.
According to the sources, on December 22, 2021, job seeker Syed Mehedi Hasan lodged a complaint against Golam Faroque and Mahmudul Hasan Selim at Gandaria Police Station for embezzling money from various people. The complaint was also sent to the ACC for legal action.
According to the ACC sources, on January 7, 2018, the Department of Social Services issued a recruitment notification for the post of Social Workers Union (Permanent Revenue) for 463 posts and other posts.
 After the publication of the recruitment notice, the accused started taking various opportunities including collecting money from different people by showing false temptation by guaranteeing job to the candidates.
In the wake of the allegations, investigation team seized taka 57 lakh from the accused Md. Golam Farooq and Mahmudul Hasan in front of the Technical Education Board in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on December 24, 2021.
The ACC filed the case under Sections 161, 165, 420, 109 of the Penal Code and Section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 as evidence of bribery was found in the investigation.
