Two people were killed when the driver of the motorcycle lost control and rammed into a covered van in Kalihati upazila of Tangail. The incident took place in Jokarchar area of Dhaka-Bangabandhu Bridge East Highway on Monday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Zahirul Islam (22) and Sabuj (25). Zahirul is the son of Ashraf Ali of Ballabbari area of Gohaliabari union of Kalihati upazila and Sabuj, son of Abdul Majid Mia of Pathailkandi village of Nikrail Union of Bhuyapur Upazila. Among them Zahirul worked in metro rail project in Dhaka.
Mokammel Hossain, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station said that the two friends were going home from Tangail on a motorcycle. At that time while overtaking, their motorcycle slipped and losing control it hit a Dhaka-bound covered van leaving both of them dead on the spot. The covered van later fled away from the spot very quickly.
He also added that after completing all legal procedures, the dead bodies will be handed over to their relatives.
