Two minor cousins drowned in a pond of Shelchapri Purbapara village in Shahajadpur upazila recently.
The deceased were identified as Pranta Sutradhar, 7, son of late Modon Sutradhar of Shelchapri village, and his cousin Chanchal Sutradhar, 8, son of Paritosh Sutradhar of Brahmagachha village in Raiganj upazila in the district.
Quoting relatives, sub-inspector of Shahjadpur Police Station Abdul Mannan said the children went to the pond to take a bath.
As they did not return after a long time, relatives launched a search for them.
At one stage, they were found floating in the pond and taken to a local hospital where doctors declared them dead.
