Two accused arrested over the Mirpur murder case yesterday (Thursday) made confessions in a Dhaka court admitting their involvement in the murder. The accused persons are- Ramjan and Yusuf.
Earlier, Detective Branch Inspector Sirajul Islam Khan, who is also the Investigation Officer of the case produced the accused in the court and appealed to the court to record the voluntary confessional statements of the accused, while Magistrate Sharafuzzaman Ansari of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka recorded their statements. Later, the court sent them to the jail.
Meanwhile, police claimed that prostitution was the cause of murder of the elderly woman and her domestic help in city’s Mirpur area. Police also claimed the elderly woman would run prostitution business in her house and two ‘clients’ committed the homicide.
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) in a press conference on Thursday upheld from beginning to end of the murder.
Earlier, on Tuesday night, police recovered the bodies of Rahima Begum, 60 and her domestic help Sumi Akhter, 20, from the third floor of a building at Block-A, Road-2 of Mirpur-2. Police said Rahima lived in the house lonely. Sumi took work in the house a day before the murder.
Detectives began investigation after Rahima’s daughter who lives in Narayanganj filed a case in this connection with the murder and arrested two people from Sadarghat on Wednesday in the case.
The duo confessed that they strangulated the two woman to death, claimed DMP Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten. Citing the arrested two, he said the duo went to the house at night of the day before murder to do unsocial acts. Among them, one would often go to the house and gateman would allow him.
Baten said Rahima ran prostitution business in her house and one Babul assisted her in the misdeeds. The elderly woman would take Tk 3,000 per night from a customer to stay with sex workers.
On the night, the two customers had total Tk 3,500. So, they asked the woman to take less money but she did not agree and showed fear of Babul. Then, they decided one of them will stay with Sumi due to less money.
But in the early hours they feared Babul can come in the morning and kill them. From that fear, they committed the murder, the duo admitted, they told police, Baten added. He also said before fleeing, they strangulated Rahima and Sumi to death.
