Two persons were killed when a powerful transformer exploded near the Islamabad Medina petrol pump under the Chawkbazar Police Station in the capital. Three others were injured in the incident.
The accident took place on Wednesday night.
The two deceased were identified as Maruf ,18, and Hero ,40.
Among the injured two were identified as Sarwar, (20), and Sohag, (30). Another injured couldn’t be identified as yet.
Abdul Qaiyum, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chawkbazar police station confirmed the news to the media saying that a transformer exploded during heavy showers and when a truck was heading towards Sowari Ghat, injuring five people.
After the blast the injured were first taken to Mitford Hospital.
Later, three of them were taken to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery where doctors declared Maruf dead at midnight. Truck owner Hero died on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in city’s Shyamoli.
Dr Partha Shankar Pal, a resident physician of the Sheikh Hasina National Burn Institute, said, of the two injured patients, Sarwar’s condition is critical as 48% of his body was burnt in the blast.
