The expelled faction of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of BNP, clashed with the rivals at the party’s Naya Paltan central office on Tuesday.
The unrest has been continuing as a sign of protest against the forming of the central committee determining age limit.
Right after the demonstration ended around 1:00pm, two crude bombs were exploded on the spot, but no one was injured.
A group of JCD leaders and activists who are in favour of forming the new committee of the student body with specific age limit took position in front of the BNP office in the morning.
Another group which have been on a movement since June 10 demanding the withdrawal of the age limit also gathered in front of BNP office around 12pm and chased their opponents.
They swooped on the ground floor of the BNP office as other group took position inside it.
The demonstrating JCD leaders damaged the electricity main switch, disrupting power supply to the office, and drove away the security staff out of the gate, vandalising their desks.
They continued their agitation in front of the BNP office for an hour and chanted various slogans in favour of their demand.
Talking to reporters before ending their programme, ex-Vice President of the dissolved JCD committee Iktiar Kabir said they are going to keep their agitation programme postponed for Wednesday only on the occasion of International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. “BNP leaders are contacting us. We want the age limit to be withdrawn and a new council announced to resolve the problem.”
He said, they hope that BNP senior leaders will take proper steps to resolve the problem by Wednesday. “Or else, we’ll resume our agitation programme on Thursday.”
The same group also staged a two-hour demonstration in front of the BNP central office on Monday demanding the withdrawal of age limit and expulsion order against their 12 leaders.
Amid a row over the formation of its new committee maintaining a specific age limit, BNP on Sunday announced that the council of JCD will be held on July 15.
JCD’s last committee was formed on October 14, 2014, with Rajib Ahsan as its President and Akramul Hasan as General Secretary.
BNP dissolved and JCD committee on June 3 last and imposed a condition for the prospective candidates to have passed SSC and equivalent examinations either 2000 or later on for the candidacy in the council election, prompting a group of leaders to stage demonstrations seeking the withdrawal of age limit.
