UNB, Tangail :
Two individuals, including a police Sub-Inspector, were arrested while taking bribe from a job seeker’s relative in front of the superintendent of police’s (SP) office in the city on Friday night.
Shanjit Kumar Roy, the SP, disclosed the matter on

Saturday while speaking at a press conference, saying the bribe was paid on behalf of someone interested to join the police force as a constable.
The arrestees are Muhammad Ali, Sub-Inspector of Jamalpur Sadar Court and son of late Insan Ali of Choubaria village of Tangail Sadar upazila, and Shahanatul Arefin Shumi, 35, wife of Khairul Bashar of Jamalpur’s Islampur upazila.
They were caught red-handed while taking bribe from a job seeker’s relative in front of the SP’s office around 8 pm on Friday. They received Tk 10 lakh from the person with a false promise of helping the candidate get a job in the Police force as a constable, said the SP.
To assure the candidate’s uncle Wazed Ali, they even pretended to hand a cut of the bribe to SP Roy.
At one stage, Wazed Ali wanted to meet the SP as he doubted them. That resulted in an altercation.
A team of DB police happened to be passing by the spot. Wazed Ali informed the matter to them when they stopped and asked what happened.
Then, DB police members arrested the duo and seized TK 1.95 lakh from the woman.
In primary interrogation, Shumi said remaining Tk 8.85 lakh was handed over to her husband Khairul Bashar.
Eventually they were sent to prison through court as a case was filed with Tangail Sadar Police Station.
