Two DU teachers punished for breaking rules

The Dhaka University administration has dismissed one teacher from his job on charge of full-time employment in two sectors at the same time and demoted other for plagiarism in his PhD thesis.
The decision was taken in syndicate meeting chaired by DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman at NababNawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Tuesday evening.
Ashraf-uz-Zaman Sarkar, Assistant Professor of Institute of Modern Language Institute has been dismissed from the service of the university for his full-time employment in an embassy in Dhaka without permission.
According to the DU rules, it is a punishable offense, and against the rules, discipline and ethics
of the service for a regular teacher involving full-time employment in two sector at the same time.
Abul Kalam Lutful Kabir, another teacher of the university was demoted to Assistant Professor on charge of plagiarism in his PhD thesis.
Besides, the syndicate approved the formation and policy of the ‘Student Promotion and Support Unit’ under the supervision of Student Counseling and Guidance Department.
The unit has been formed as a part of the special steps taken by the university to make the students skilled, experienced and confident human resources in the competitive market of globalization by connecting with the real workplace and providing training, making them employable at the national and international levels and achieving various development targets.
