Two drug addicts nabbed for killing elderly woman

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has arrested two men over the mugging and murder of 77-year-old Manju Sen.
The detainees are Abbas and Rubel, both of whom are approximately 27-year-old.
Police arrested the duo after conducting several operations across the port city on Saturday, said Sadarghat Police Station Chief Nezam Uddin.
He said police recovered the body of Manju Sen from the Marine Drive area under Sadarghat Police Station on Saturday night and later detained the suspects.
“They confessed to their involvement in the murder during an initial interrogation. They stole her jewellery and a mobile phone before the murder.”
Scores of tourists visit the Marine Drive area and many locals go for a daily morning walk along the road.
Sadarghat Police Inspector (Investigation) Ruhul Amin said Manju Sen, a resident of Shib Bari Firingi Bazar area, had gone for a morning walk early on Friday, citing details from the interrogation.
“Abbas and Rubel forced her into a nearby building and strangled her to death before snatching her ornaments and phone. They then dragged her body into a nearest grove beside the canal.”
Ruhul said both suspects are addicts who attacked Sen for money to buy drugs.
Sen’s family had filed a general diary (GD) with Kotwali Police Station after she went missing on Friday.
3 killed in separate incidents : Three people were killed in separate incidents in Chittagong city and district on Thursday. .
Police said truck driver Mohammad Arif, 45, was killed and two others were injured when a truck hit a covered van at Fouzdarhat Jalil Textile Gate on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway under Sitakunda upazila in the early hours of the day.
In another incident, Kamal Uddin, 40, received head injury when a goods- laden pickup van knocked him in Khatungonj area around 3 am.
He was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Belal, 23, was killed in electrocution. He got electrocuted when he was repairing an air conditioner in Patherghata area at about 11 am on that day.
Ten drug abusers jailed : A mobile court in Chittagong has jailed 10 drug abusers for different terms and fined nine others.
The court comprising officials of Rab and district administration conducted a drive in Dobarpar of Double Mooring area on Saturday. They jailed two for 10 days, seven for seven days and the rest for three days each while fined the nine Tk 4,500 each, said Mimtanur Rahman, Rab-7 media officer.
The officials also seized 112 yaba pills and 150 grammes of cannabis from them, he added.
