The driver of a covered van and his helper were killed in a road crash while a policeman was killed being hit by a wrecker during rescue operation at the accident site at Syedpur in Chauddagram upazila on Monday.
The deceased were identified as ASI Akhter Hossain, covered van driver Fahad, 30 of Shenbag in Noakhali and helper Suman, 28 of Chandganj in Laxmipur.
Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Miabazar Highway Police Camp, said a covered van got overturned being hit by another covered van around 5 am, leaving Fahad and Sumon dead on the spot.
After a short while, ASI Akhter rushed to the spot to conduct rescue operation and when he was standing beside the police pick up van a speedy wrecker hit the vehcile, leaving Akther injured.
Akhter was taken to Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
Police recovered the bodies and seized the covered vans and the wrecker.
Mean while a policeman who sustained injuries being hit by a motorbike in Godagari upazila died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Sunday evening.
The deceased cop was identified as Abu Bakkar, 40, son of Tumir Uddin of Moddhyapara village in Manda upazila in Naogaon.
Nityapada Das, officer-in-charge of Premtali Police Investigation Centre, said Bakkar was injured when a speedy motorbike hit him in front of Police Investigation Centre around 12 pm on Sunday.
Bakkar was admitted to RMCH with wounds on head and legs but succumbed to injuries at 6 pm at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
