Ctg’s Jalal murder case: Two convicted with death, another 2 with life term

A court in Chattogram ordered death sentence to two persons and life imprisonment to two persons in the case of murder of Haji Jalal Uddin Sultan under Double Mooring police station of the city. On July 31, the fourth additional Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shariful Alam’s court gave this verdict.
Three accused were present in the court during the verdict.
Those sentenced to death are – Kamal Hossain and Md Russell. Surma Akhtar and Neelu Akhtar Riya were sentenced to life imprisonment. Neelu Akhter Riya was absent from the court when the verdict was announced. Court bench assistant Omar Fuad confirmed the matter to this correspondent .
According to court sources, the body of Haji Jalal Uddin Sagar was recovered from the north gate of Bank Colony of CDA residential area with his hands and feet tied on October 20, 2016.
In this incident, Imaz Uddin, the son of the victim, filed a case at Doublemooring police station as the plaintiff. Then on May 28, 2017, the then PBI Chittagong Metro Inspector Santosh Kumar Chakma, the investigating officer of the case, submitted the complaint to the court. The complaint was filed on September 9, 2017. The testimony of 22 people was accepted in the court.
Additional PP Mohammad Noman Chowdhury told media that the court has ordered death sentence to two persons and life imprisonment to two persons in Haji Jalal Uddin Sultan murder case. Advocate Abu Isa assisted him in handling the case. The judge ordered the 3 accused who were present in the court during the verdict to be sent to jail.
