Bangladesh Railway (BR), eastern zone, authority yesterday suspended an officer and an employee for their alleged absence from office during yesterday’s train-human hauler collision that left four people dead.
The suspended employees are – Jalalihat Station Master Nezam Uddin and Titu Kanti Das, an employee of BR Transport Department. BR, eastern zone sources said Nezam was not in his office during the incident while Titu, whose duty was giving clearances of railway lines, also remained absent.
Four garment workers were killed and at least fifteen others injured when a local train hit a human hauler carrying apparel workers at a level crossing near Jalalihat station under city’s Chandgaon thana yesterday morning.
Meanwhile, garment factories in Kalurghat industrial area remained closed yesterday soon after the incident.
