The country’s law enforcing agencies, including the Detective Branch (DB) of Police, have been investigating into the recent remarks of the moderators of Islamic programmes in various electronic media after the murder of Maulana Nurul Islam Farooqi.
DB Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sheikh Nazmul Alam made this disclosure while briefing reporters in the capital’s DB office on Sunday.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has started the probe into the Farooqi murder case, considering the allegation of his family members and leaders of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, police said.
Nazmul Alam said that they took the detainees Mahmuda and Sharif suspected in the killing case.
A senior official of DB said family members of the slain TV anchor alleged that they did not filed any case though some miscreants threatened Farooqi several times. DB police will gather all information from the family members, he added.
Replying to a query, Nazmul Alam said, “We are inquiring the details of the murder to dig out the objectives and culprits of the case. Besides, Farooqi’s family members gave some suspects names.” On August 27, some unidentified miscreants slaughtered Farooqi at his East Raza Bazar residence in the city. Apart from anchoring the “Shantir Pothey” and “Kafela” programmes on Channel i, he owned Farooqi Tours and Travels Private Limited, a Hajj travel agency, and served as the imam of the Supreme Court Mosque.
Meanwhile, victim’s son Faisal Farooqi has filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station early Thursday in this connection.
