Tuba Group Sramik Sangram Committee on Monday threatened to wage a tough movement if all dues of the workers, including salary and Eid bonus, are not paid within the next 24 hours.
The Sangram Committee leaders made the threat from a rally of demonstrating workers in front of the office of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in the city’s Karwan Bazar.
Failing to lay siege to the BGMEA office in the face of
police barricade, Tuba group workers under the banner of the Sangram committee staged demonstration and held the rally.
Addressing the rally, leaders of the garments workers alleged that although the BGMEA announced to pay salary and Eid bonus by September 28, Tuba Group workers did not receive their dues yet.
They demanded of the government to take initiatives for paying the salary and festival bonus within 24 hours.
Moshrefa Mishu, president of the Garment Workers Unity Forum, and garment worker leaders Sumon Mallik, Taslima Akhter Lima, Shahidul Islam Sabuj, Selim Mahmud, Joly Talukder, Razu Ahmed, Tuba group workers Anwar Hossain, Mita, Saiful Islam and AAM Fayez Hossain, among others, spoke at the rally.
Terming Tuba group owner Delwar Hossain as killer, they demanded immediate arrest of Delwar cancelling his bail and appropriate punishment to him, said a press release signed by Shahidul Islam Sabuj, member of Tuba Group Sramik Sangram Committee.
Tuba Group, which own the Tazreen Fashions Limited, has five other factories-Tuba Textile Mills Limited, Tuba Fashion Limited, Taif Designs Limited, Mita Designs Limited, Bughshan Garments (pvt) Limited-where over 1490 workers are employed.
