ABC News :
President Donald Trump this morning appeared to confirm reports that he is being investigated for firing former FBI Director James Comey last month.
“I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt,” Trump wrote in a tweet.
ABC News has reached out to the White House for comment.
In May, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed former FBI director Robert Mueller as special counsel to take over the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s meddling in the election.
Trump has repeatedly denied that he is under investigation. “No collusion,
no obstruction,” he remarked at a press conference last Friday.
The Washington Post reported this week that Mueller is examining whether the president obstructed justice by firing Comey, who was overseeing the FBI probe. ABC News has not been able to independently confirm this report.
Comey was fired by Trump on May 9. In a letter to Comey informing him of his dismissal, Trump said he was acting on a recommendation from Rosenstein. A few days later, Trump told NBC News he was thinking of the Russia investigation when he ultimately made the decision to dismiss Comey.
