Tributes paid to Syed Moinuddin Maizbhandari

Social leaders , politicians and religious scholars have paid glowing tributes to the memories of leading spiritual leader of contemporary Bangladesh Syed Mainuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari marking his 80th birth anniversary at a rally on Tuesday .
“A descendent of the Prophet (Muhammad PBUH) he (Moinuddin Ahmed) will always be recalled as a leading Muslim saint and key figure of the spiritual hub of Maizbhandar Darbar who earned the total respect of people who came in his touch,” president of Chittagong city Awami League and former mayor of the port city Mohiuddin Chowdhury told the rally at Muslim Halll in the city.
The former port city mayor said he guided the people in wilderness to build their life in line with the Islam’s humane Sufi spirit while “his contribution to cementing the interfaith harmony will be regarded by the history”.But, Chowdhury recalled, apart from his spiritual endeavor, this great saint also appeared as an organizer of the Liberation War keeping links with the top politicians of the port city like Mr Siddiqui and Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury.”He kept a constant link with us during the Liberation War and extended his hands by providing assistance in different ways including in the form of money and food,” Chowdhury said.
The eldest son of Syed Mainuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari , Syed Saifuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari chaired the rally organised by Sufi Unity for International Solidarity (SUFIS) with its theme being “multi dimensional role of Syed Mainuddin in preaching Maizbhandari philosophy and upholding world peace”.Organising secretary of Parliament of World Sufis Ahmed Tijani Ben Omar of the United States was the key-speaker at the rally.
Syed Saifuddin Ahmed said being a spiritual figure of global repute the great saint dedicated his entire efforts to spread the message of harmony and peace as part of his spiritual pursuit in line with the Quranic principles and Prophet’s (PBUH) teachings. Former president of Chittagong Bar Association Anwarul Islam Chowdhury, city Awami League leader Iftekhar Samul Chowdhury, Professor Abul Fara Muhammad Farid Uddin and several religious and spiritual leaders and took part in the discussion.
