Different political and socio-cultural organisations observed the 45th death anniversary of legendary journalist and founder editor of Dainik Ittefaq Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia across the country in a befitting manner on Sunday.
Leaders and workers of different organisations, groups, individuals and family members visited the mazar of Manik Mia at Azimpur graveyard in the city on Sunday morning to pay homage by placing wreaths and offering Fateha. Special supplements were brought out marking the occasion.
Different TV channels telecast special programmes highlighting life and works of the legendary journalist who fought against military rule, autocracy and violation of fundamental rights of the people. He played a significant role in inspiring the people to join the struggle for freedom under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Jatiyo Party (JP), Jatiyo Gonotantrik League and
Manik Mia Sangsad separately organised discussions on his eventful life in the city.
Health Minister Mohammad Nasim speaking at the function of JP paying rich tributes to Manik Mia said that his pen was mightier than sword. Presided over by secretary general of JP Sheikh Shahidul Islam, the discussion was also addressed by Sadek Siddique, Nazmunnahar and adviser editor of Ittefaq Habibur Rahman Milon.
In observance of the anniversary of death, a doa-mahfil was held at the Manik Mia Foundation (Ittefaq Bhaban), 1 R.K. Mission Road after Zohr prayer.
Javed Hosein, grand-son of Manik Mia, journalists and employees of The New Nation attended the doa-mahfil.  
Another doa mahfil was also held at the Bhanga Press, Kajlar Par in the city after Zohr prayer. Journalists, employees and workers of Dainik Ittefaq attended the doa- mahfil.
