The ruling Awami League, its associate bodies and other likeminded organizations yesterday paid tribute to Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnessa Muijb placing wreaths at her grave at Banani graveyard in the city on the occasion of her 86th birth anniversary.
Begum Fazilatunnesa, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and mother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, faced martyrdom along with Bangabandhu and other family members during the brutal predawn attack of the disgruntled army personnel on August 15 in 1975.
Leaders and workers of different organizations including AL and its other associate bodies also offered Quran Khwani, milad and doa mahfils near the grave seeking divine blessings and eternal peace of the departed soul of Bangamata.
Awami League advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu, party presidium member Obaidul Quader, joint secretary general Mahabub-Ul-Alam Hanif, MP, and Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, MP, organising secretaries Ahmed Hossain and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, law affairs secretary Abdul Matin Khasru, labour affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, information and research secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, relief and social welfare secretary Faridunnahar Laily, office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, deputy publicity and publication secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil, among others, were present.
Later, Leaders and workers of Awami Juba League (JL), Swechchhasebak League (SL), Jatiya Sramik League, Mahila Awami League, Juba Mahila League, Krishak League, Bangamata Parishad and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote and many other organizations also placed wreaths at her grave marking her birth anniversary.
On this day in 1930, Begum Fazilatunnessa nicknamed ‘Renu’ was born to Sheikh Zahurul Huq and Hosne Ara Begum at remote Tungipara village in Gopalganj subdivision which was later upgraded to a district.
