Tribunal indicts 9 war crimes accused of Muktagacha

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 on Sunday indicted nine war crimes accused from Muktagacha, Mymensingh, framing eight charges of crimes against humanity.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md. Shahinur Islam framed the charges of crimes, including genocide, rape and murder.
The nine accused are: Md. Abdus Salam, Suruj Ali Fakir, Md. Join Uddin Faruki, Joynal Abedin alias Joynal Moulavi, Md. Abdur Rahim alias Md. Abdur Rahim Master alias Nur B.Sc, Md. Jalal Uddin, Md. Rostam Ali, Md. Shamsher Ali alias Md. Shamsher Fakir alias Shamsher Moulavi, Md. Fazlul Haque alias Fazlu Kazi and Md. Shamsul Haque.
Of the nine, Fazlu and Shamsul are yet to be arrested.
The first tribunal passed the order as prosecutor Abul Kalam Azad pleaded to frame charges against the accused. Defence counsels advocates Abdus Subhan Tarafder and Muzahidul Islam Shahin, however, pleaded to acquit the accused from the charges.
After hearing both the parties, the tribunal framed the charges and set September 19 for the submission of opening statements by the prosecution.
The prosecution on June 19, 2017, submitted formal charge in the case.
