The extremely poor people living in char areas have achieved tremendous success in animal husbandry and poultry sectors ushering in a new hope through improving their socioeconomic condition in recent years.
Experts said this at the launching ceremony of a two-day ‘Livestocks Fair-2014’ jointly organised by the Chars Livelihoods Programme (CLP) and RDRS Bangladesh at Haragachh pourashava premises in Kawnia upazila on Monday afternoon.
Implementation of the CLP is being funded by the UKaid through the Department for International Development (DFID) and Australian Government through Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) to improve livelihoods of char people.
Under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, CLP is being executed by the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division with the management through Maxwell Stamp Plc.
With Haragachh pourashava Mayor Sadakat Hossain Jhantu in the chair, Divisional Deputy Director of the Animal Resources Department Dr Swapan Kumar Paul attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
Upazila Animal Resources Officer Dr Manojit Kumar Sarker, Manager (Bazar & Livelihoods Development) of CLP Muhammad Muktadir Hossain, Head of Programme Coordination of RDRS Bangladesh Monjusree Saha, its Head of Human Rights Sabrina Shamshad, Head of Microfinance Humayun Khalid, Agriculture and Environment Coordinator Mamunur Rashid addressed as the special guests.
Training and Services Coordinator of CLP Mohammad Shafikuzzaman delivered welcome speech in the ceremony moderated by Programme Manager (CLP) of RDRS Bangladesh Shafikur Rahman.
The fair is being organised to demonstrate the success achieved by the char people in the animal husbandry and poultry sectors, create awareness and inspire them in boosting the prospective sectors further adopting the latest technologies.
Different companies, organisations and CLP beneficiaries have set up 30 stalls in the fair demonstrating the latest technologies on animal husbandry, vaccines, medicines, fodders, poultry, cow-fattening, grass cultivation and marketing of the products.
The CLP benficaries exhibited fattened bullocks, heifers, milk-giving cows, ducks of different varieties like ‘Khaki Cambell’ ducks, ‘China’ ducks, ‘Raj’ ducks and chickens of the boiler parent stock, CPF-2, CPF-3, white rock, foamy, golden, hi-sex, ‘echha’ brown, ‘Golachhilla’ and other varieties in the fair.
