Speakers at a programme today said tree plantation could be the most effective way to mitigate adverse impacts of climate change for improving environment, ecology and bio-diversity for building a habitable planet for the next generation.
Member of the Parliament from Lalmoniraht-3 constituency Engineer Abu Saleh Md Syeed Dulal said this while inaugurating the tree plantation campaign-2016 by planting saplings on Teesta Degree College premises under Sadar upazila in Lalmonirhat as the chief guest on Saturday.
With Principal of the college Alhaj Abdus Salam in the chair, its Vice-principal Aynal Haque, Gokunda union chairman Golam Mostafa Swapan, General Secretary of Gokunda union Awami league Khorshed Alam attended the occasion as special guests.
Putting emphasis on massive forestation, the chief guest said tree plantation would improve the degrading environment, ecology and bio-diversity to cope with the adverse impacts of climate change in the planet.
Encouraging the students in tree plantation, he called upon everybody to plant at least one tree sapling annually and reminded that the better deeds of today would leave a better and habitable planet for the future generations.
Mahfuzur Rahman said parija rice can be harvested in 70 to 75 days after seedling transplantation during the off season in between late May and mid-August when the fields remain fallow after Boro harvest and before T-Aman plantation.
The chief guest suggested farmers for expanding parija rice cultivation that requires no supplementary irrigation as its plants grow well making best use of unused seasonal rain waters during the months of May, June and July to produce additional rice.
Eradicating child
repression stressed
Eradication of repression and torture on the children in the educational institutions and anywhere else would enable them in flourishing talents to become the worthy citizens in future.
The views were expressed at the inaugural ceremony of a 10-day workshop on ‘Enhancing Capacities to Eradicate Child Repression’ organised by Centre for Services AND Information on Disability (CSID) at the Training Centre of ‘Dristi Sangstha’ here on Wednesday.
