Tree plantation drive inaugurated

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Monday inaugurated tree plantation drive in the name and style of ‘Muktibrikkha’ by planting saplings of mango, jack fruit and Bakul on the premises of Nagar Bhaban at Phoenix Road in the city.
As part of the drive dedicated to the martyred freedom fighters, a total of 30 lakh tree saplings would be planted throughout the country in phases.
Tree-lover and nature expert Dwijen Sharma, initiator of ‘Muktibrikkha’ movement Kazi Zia Shams and chief executive engineer and executive director of Nagar Bhaban Shaheena Ahmed were present, among others.
A number of environment and non-government organisations including tour operator ‘Nishidal’ are implementing the tree plantation drive and initially trees in memories of the martyred freedom fighters would be planted in every ward of the city.
Earlier on August 19, Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the ‘Muktibrikkha’ plantation drive in front of the Senate Building in memory of 195 martyred freedom fighters of the university.
