The tree plantation campaign-2018 began on Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus for raising social awareness of the impact of greenery on environment.
JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam inaugurated the campaign on Tuesday planting a ‘Garzan’ plant at the north side of Botanical Garden of the university around 12 noon.
Addressing the function, JU VC said, “We must plant more trees to protect the environment because the oxygen of trees survives all animals.” JU Pro VC (academic) Professor Nurul Alam, Treasurer Professor Sheikh Md Manzurul Huq, Registrar (acting) Rahima Kaniz, provosts of dormitories, chief of different offices, officials and employees were present at the inaugural session.
Campus sources said around 1,000 Garzan and Shal plants will be planted on different spots on the campus as a part of the campaign.
