Staff Reporter :
Transport workers (drivers and assistants) will get appointment letters from the employers henceforth and onwards.
The decision was taken at a meeting of a Parliamentary panel with the representatives of both transport owners and workers on Tuesday.
During the meeting both the workers and employers blamed each other over appointment letters.
Workers alleged that the owners are reluctant to issue letters as they don’t want to bear the responsibility in case of an accident.
Meanwhile, owners said that workers are unwilling to take appointment lettersa
as they move from workplaces often.
Mujibul Haque Chunnu who heads the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Labour and Employment said that provisions for appointment letters to be introduced.
“For issuing a route permit of a trnasport, the appointment letter has to be considered. But it’s not being implemented due to reluctance of both the workers’ and the owners’ side,” he said.
He said that both sides have agreed on the issue and the labour wing has been directed to officially write to both parties regarding the matter.
