Gas rationing in industrial units withdrawn

The government is going to withdraw the decision of gas rationing in the industrial units for four hours of a day for fifteen days in the interests of the industries from today (Friday).
The government took the decision upon the request of the leaders of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Earlier, a BGMEA delegation led by its President Faruque Hassan held a meeting with Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources at the secretariat on Thursday.
In the meeting, the BGMEA president called upon the government to withdraw the decision of gas rationing in the industrial units for four hours a day for fifteen days for the interests of the industries.
He also called for keeping the supply of natural gas to the export-oriented industries, including garment and textile sectors uninterrupted so that factories can operate at their full capacities.
BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Senior Secretary at Energy and Mineral Resources Division Md Mahbub Hossain, Managing Director of Titas Gas Transmission & Distribution Company Limited Engr Md Haronur Rashid Mullah and Acting Chairman of Petrobangla A K M Benjamin Riazi, among others, were also present at the meeting.
The BGMEA leaders apprised the State Minister of the present situation in the RMG industry which is recovering from the pandemic fallout.
Commitment of Bangladeshi garment exporters to deliver shipments on time even amid the Covid-19 crisis has boosted confidence of buyers and as a result Bangladesh is receiving increased number of work orders, Faruque Hassan said.
He said the garment industry has been making crucial contribution to the socioeconomic development of Bangladesh especially through bringing more than 82 percent of the country’s total export earnings, employing millions of people and empowering women.
Smooth energy supply will help the apparel industry to sustain its growth in the coming days, and development the garment industry means more export earnings, more employment and more development of Bangladesh as a whole, he added.
