Transparency, accountability in primary education stressed

Speakers at a view-sharing meeting emphasised the need for ensuring transparency and accountability in primary education for making it qualitative and quantitative to free the nation from the curse of illiteracy.
Terming the primary education as foundation of all higher institutional learning, they said maximum importance should be given to making it effective and meaningful to strengthen the foundation.
Boalia Thana Education Office and Conscious Citizens Committee (CCC), an inspired organization of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), jointly organized the meeting at BGB’s Border Conference Centre in Rajshhai yesterday.
Headmasters and presidents and representatives of School Managing committee (SMC) from 30 government primary schools in the city attended the meeting and took part in its open discussion devising ways and means on how to improve the standard of primary education.
Divisional Deputy Director of Department of Primary Education Abul Khayer and District Primary Education Officer Nafisha Begum addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with CCC President Prof Abdus Salam in the chair.
CCC Members Akbarul Hassan Millat, Kolpona Roy Bhowmik and Munira Rahman Mitthi also spoke.
During their power point presentations, Thana Education Officer Md Sanaullh and TIB Area Manager Mahmud Ali highlighted the aspects of quality and standard besides ensuring transparency and accountability in primary education.
Chief Guest Abul Khayer urged the teachers and others concerned to put in their best efforts for qualitative development of primary education. He said the present government has been working relentlessly for overall improvement of the primary education sector.
Professor Abdus Salam says improvement of both quality and quantity of primary education could be vital means of attaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) besides enriching the list of skilled human resources.
All officials concerned, teachers, parents and other stakeholders should discharge their duties with utmost sincerity, honesty and patriotic zeal as the present government is pledged bound to quality development of the primary education, he added.
