Transgender people getting skill development training

Transgender people are getting skill development training here for improving their living and livelihood condition.
Department of Social Service (DSS) inaugurated a 50-daylong training program for them at its office in Rajshahi.
On the occasion, the department arranged an opening session in conference hall of Deputy Commissioner yesterday.
A total of 100 under privileged people, including 50 transgender, are taking part in the training on livestock farming, computer and sewing. Deputy Commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif addressed the session as the chief guest with Rubina Yeasmin, Deputy Director of DSS, in the chair. Civil Suregon Dr Samajit Kumar Shaha and City Social Service Officer Abdullah Al Firoj also spoke.
Helal Mahmud said the present government is very much positive for solving the problems of transgender people.
He urged the people to change their attitude towards the transgender people and demanded quota for them in education and job sectors. The training will help them free from being subjected to repression, discrimination and negligence in every spheres of their life, he said. Rubina Yeasmin told the session that a grant of Taka 12.92 lakh was given to 351 under privileged people, including 140 transgender, during the current fiscal in the district.
Main objective of the training is to involve the extreme socially excluded people in various income generating activities.
