Training workshop on Bio-safety and Bio-security held at DU

A training workshop on ‘Bio-safety and Bio-security in Bio-medical Research and Diagnostics’ was held on Sunday at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS) of Dhaka University (DU).
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated it as the chief guest. DU, ICDDRB, Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and Bangladesh Bio-safety & Bio-security Association (BBBA) have jointly organized the workshop.
Vice-President of Bangladesh Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BSBMB) Prof. Dr. Haseena Khan Presided over the function while Dean of the
Faculty of Biological Sciences of DU Prof. Dr. M. Imdadul Hoque and Country Director of CDC Dr. Kevin L Russell addressed it as special guests Head of Bio-safety Lab of ICDDRB Dr. Asadulghani delivered welcome speech. General Secretary of BSBMB Dr. Hossain Uddin Shekhar gave the vote of thanks. Speaking on the occasion, DU VC Prof Arefin Siddique stressed the need for development of bio-safety curriculum to produce skilled manpower. He said we have initiated mplementation of bio-safety and bio-ethics imperatives effectively in order to follow international protocols on these important issues.
“Lack of proper safety measures in labs may cause fatal accidents. Therefore, we have to remain alert during the work in bio labs dealings with synthetic biology,” the VC added.
Prof Arefin said Dhaka University authorities encourage creativity, foster humanity, promote fundamental and applied research to deal with next generation problems and issues.
Researchers from various public universities and research organizations including Dhaka University are participating in the workshop.
