Training program for local fruit cultivators held

Post-harvest Technology Division (PHTD) of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI), Gazipur, organized a day long training on “preparation and processing of 100 pc guava based natural jelly and green fruits preservation technologies”.
The day-long programme for the guava and other varieties of locally grown fruit cultivators group held at Atghar of Nesarabad upazila under Pirojpur district on Wednesday October 7, 2020 under the project of Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI), Bangladesh.
The program was presided by Dr. Golam Ferdous Chowdhury, Senior Scientific Officer, post-harvest technology division (PHTD), BARI.
Rafi Uddin, chief scientific officer, BARI, Rahmatpur, Barishal was present as chief guest of the programme.
Alimur Rahman, Principal Scientific Officer, RARS, BARI, Rahmatpur, Barishal, Dr. Mohammad Mainuddin Molla, Principal Investigator of AFACI Project, attended as the special guests.
The programme has been organized to impart training to the guava farmers, community members and villagers for generating income and employment opportunity of women and youth through processing and preservation of green fruits like guava, hog plum, olive, green mango etc., they said.
A total of 60 farmers including unemployed women and youths participated need-based training on preparation, processing and preservation of chemical free natural jelly, chutney, jam using guava and other fruits like hog plum, olive green mango and the participant cultivators of the programme suggested for development of communication, low-interest based capital loans from financial institutions, providing industrial infrastructures and knowledge.
