Traffic plying has been resumed on the Bangabandhu Bridge after two hours of being suspended as the toll system conducted by contracting company Commuter System Network (CNS) became dysfunctional.
The toll collection process was halted on both sides of the bridge from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Sunday.
Due to which, a 14-kilometre long tailback was formed on both sides of the bridge since 10am, putting hundreds of passengers in untold sufferings, said Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mosharrof Hossain.
“Although we are appointed in toll collection, the toll is being collected by the system of a contracting company Commuter System Network (CNS). Toll collection was halted following a glitch in the toll system. Later, the bridge authorities started collecting tolls manually,,” Bangladesh Bridge Authority’s Supervising Engineer of Bangabandhu Bridge, said Engineer Tofazzol Hossain, caretaker of the site office of Bangabandhu Bridge.
“We are not confirmed about how much time it will take to restore the system,” said the caretaker.
Bangabandhu Bridge security and traffic management chief Lt. commander Farooque Hasan said the toll system of the bridge was controlled by Dhaka Bridge Bhaban.
“The system is not working in Dhaka that suspended toll collection for about two hours. Toll collection started at 12:10pm through tickets,” said.
