BSS, Bandarban :
A validation workshop on promotion of inclusive, equitable, and responsible tourism was held at Bandarban hill district town recently, said a press release. Co-hosted by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs (MCHTA), the event was attended by 86 key tourism stakeholders, representing community-based organizations, the private sector, media, and the government. They brainstormed on innovative ideas to promote tourism at national and regional levels, especially among the south Asian nations having hills and mountains that include Bangladesh.
The validation workshop can be seen as a milestone in the ongoing partnership between ICIMOD and MoCHTA – formalized in 2013 to collaborate for the sustainable development in hilly areas in Bangladesh. Bandarban – also known as the roof of Bangladesh – is the natural and cultural heart of the Chittagong Hill Tracts region. It has gained steady popularity in recent years as a must-visit destination for tourists interested in adventures, hill cultures, and heritage.
As part of a partnership, Bandarban Hill District Council is to develop sustainable tourism value chains in Ruma Upazila. The main objective of the partnership is to increase the resilience and foster livelihood opportunities for the poor and vulnerable local communities.
