Top terror released after serving jail term

Bidhan Barua, a top terrorist of North Chattogram, who has been languishing in jail since 2011, was released from Cumilla Central jail on June 3, two days before the Eid-ul-Fitr.
Forkan Wahid, a jailer of Cumilla Jail, said Bidhan was wanted in five cases and he has been convicted in one case.
Bidhan was released after completing his jail term in a case after scrutiny and he secured bail from four other cases filed against him, he said.
Earlier, Bidhan landed at Chattogram Central Jail around six months back.
Mahiuddin Mahmud Sohel, additional superintendent of police, said “Normally the jail authorities have informed the release of any accused of a sensational case before their release and we gave the clearance after scrutiny.”
Bidhan, son of Himanshu Barua of Andharmanik village in Raozan upazila of the district had joined National Democratic Party of SQ Chowdhury in 1990 and formed a ‘bahini’ named after himself, ‘Bidhan Bahini’ and was involved in many criminal activities. In 1993 he killed Akhtar Hossain, the then chairman of East Gujrar union of the upazila.
He was also involved in many criminal activities including that of murder.
Rapid Action Battalion RAB arrested Bidhan Barua in 2011 and on September 12, 2008 . He was sentenced to ten years imprisonment in a case filed under Arms Act.
