Top terror Mamun arrested

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Monday arrested Mofizur Rahman Mamun, an alleged top criminal of Dhaka’s Mirpur and Pallabi area.
Mamun, who has already been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in absentia, was arrested from Baitun Nur Jame Masjid area of Pallabi at round 6.40am on Monday, a DMP press release said.
“Police had information about an anti-state criminal gang that is plotting to destabilize the country
through targeted killing and indiscriminate violence. This gang was trying to collect weapons from the black market. The Counter Terrorism Department started a shadow investigation over the matter and conducted a raid where one person was detained,” the release added.
After primary investigation and interrogation, police learned that the suspect is Mamun, who is accused in 27 cases for charges including extortion, murder, drugs, illegal weapons, and armed robbery. A total of 15 arrest warrants have been issued against him and he was convicted in absentia in two cases.
