Low price: Tomato growers disheartened in N dists

Marginal farmers of all eight northern districts have been frustrated due to low market price from last week.
The farmers spent average Tk 500 to 550 to produce a maund of crop but getting Tk 200 to 300 selling the same amount of vegetable recent time, said farmer Belal Hossain, 23, at Boalia village under Adamdighi upazila of Bogra district.
He also said, they are incurring Tk 200 to 250 as loss for producing each maund crop due to acute low market price across the area this season when they were most desire to be fself-realint. Wholesaler Hamidul Rahman said, available supply of the crops is the main cause of low market price this season. He also mentions another cause for law market price that the trader can’t send the crop timely to Dhaka due to bad shape of road. “I have cultivated tomato on 26 decimal of land spending Tk 12,000 this season hoping for good profit,” said farmer Healal Uddn, 42, at Ghoradhap village under Mohadebpur upazila of Naogaon. He again said, “I am suspecting to incur over Tk 2300 to 3300.” Price of the crops was satisfactory before couple of weeks but the market price of the crops coming down gradually. The customer doesn’t show interest to purchase tomato item at all in this peak hour.
According to authority concern they farmers of Bogra, Naogaon, Sirajganj, Chapainawabganj, Natore, Pabna, Rajshahi Joypurhat district have attained a bumper production this season. They have provided among the peasants all sort of necessary agi-input, they added.
Deputy Director of DAE Joypurhat district said, we have provided all sort of necessary agri-input to make the programme a grand success this season elsewhere the division. The farmer will bring more tomamto coming season, he added.
