Tomato cyultivation in full swing in Tungipara

The tomato growers of Zoaria under Tungipara Upazila in Gopalganj are passing a busy time in their tomato field to get high price during the current season.
Dr. H.M. Moniruzzaman, Upazila Agriculture Officer, Tungipara said, the farmers of the region will produce 3,500 metric tonnes from 100 hectares of land if the weather condition is favourable.
One an average 35 tonnes tomato will produced per hectare if our target to impose 40 tonnes per hectares.
Sachin Mondal (50), a tomato grower of village Zoaria under Tungipara Upazila told The New Nation. he has been cultivating early variety of Tomato origin of lovely on two bighas of land this season where spent taka 80,000 and I will profit Tk 1,70,000 from my produce of Tomato field, I think if the weather remain congenial said Sachin.
Last year he also get a good yield of Tomato which encouraged him to cultivate its on a large scale during this season, he added.
Some growers said they have been cultivating the crop for the last few years though they failed to get fair prices of their produce. If they get expected price of their produce the cultivation of Tomato will increase significantly, they added.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Gopalganj Official sources said some 450 hectares of land have been brought under early variety Tomato cultivation in five upazilas of the district during the current season.
Where probable production target 6,100 metric tonnes (MT), sources said. Out only that farmers in this region about 4000 metric tonnes (MT) of Tomato export to capital and other districts in the country every year, DD Added.
Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) is providing quality tomato seeds among the farmers in order to increase its production.
 Besides Krishi Bank provided easy term loans among farmers to make the efforts a success.
