Toll collector killed at Jhalakathi

Injured toll collector Md. Zahid Hossain (27) of Gabkhan bridge in Jhalakathi district breathed his last at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday midnight. He was buried at Kifaitnagar after Namaz-e-Janaza on Tuesday. A case was filed by Faruq Hossain, father of the deceased, but there is no arrest as yet although five days passed since the date of filling.
Ill-fated Zahid was injured by a gang of miscreants led by trolley owner Mizan Khalifa and his accomplice Miraj on
 May 10, as he (Zahid) asked his assistant Saddam Hossain to collect arrear toll for Tk 240 only from Mizan.
Sources said, when Saddam approached for payment of toll, Mizan slapped him. At that time, Zahid, who was in the toll room, came out and saved Saddam. Infuriated Mizan said, he would come back. In the evening, Mizan, Khalifa, son of Jalil Khalifa, and Miraj Hossain, son of Anowar Hossain, attaked Zahid and beat him with iron rods. Zahid fell on the ground unconscious.
Local people rescued Zahid and sent him to Barisal SBM College and Hospital, but condition deteriorating he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he breathed his last.
