Tofail urges Myanmar govt to stop genocide

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Saturday urged the Myanmar government to stop genocide of Rohingya people immediately.
 “Genocide will not bring any good,” he said firmly at a programme held in the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh on Saturday morning.
The persecution of ethnic minority Rohingya of
Myanmar is now recognised as genocide internationally, the minister said.
Violation of human rights in Myanmar and genocide continuation there would be discussed in the United Nations General Assembly. Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council had reached a consensus unanimously for discussing the burning issue, he added.
Nearly 4,00,000 ethnic minority Rohingyas, mostly women, children and aged people, entered Bangladesh to escape violence and persecution during ‘crackdown by Myanmar military in Rakhine State since August 25, raising a total number of undocumented Myanmar nationals and registered refugees in Bangladesh to over 8,00,000.
