Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Wednesday said he is optimistic about the restoration of Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) facilities in the US market after the recently held Ticfa meeting in the US.
“During the second round of Ticfa meeting in Washington on Monday, the US side appreciated Bangladesh’s success in fulfilling its 16 conditions tagged with the GSP revival process. So, there’s a possibility of restoring the facility,” he told reporters after a meeting with Spanish Ambassador Eduando De Laiglesia at the Secretariat.
Replying to a question over the tentative time of restoring the trade benefit,
the minister said, “The trade benefit was suspended from the Congress. So, its restoration is a lengthy process.” Tofail Ahmed also said Laiglesia during the meeting expressed their interest to invest in Bangladesh for infrastructure development.
The minister urged the Spanish envoy to encourage their investors to invest in Bangladesh as a congenial environment for investment has been prevailing here.
