Awami League Advisory Council Member and Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Saturday said the government would be tough to find out and punish the killers of blogger Niloy, who was slaughtered by unidentified assailants on Friday in his city’s Uttar Goran apartment.
“Frantic effort of authority concerned continues to nab the killers of Niloy . . . The culprits must be arrested to ensure exemplary punishment,” he said replying to a query of journalists, after placing wreath at the grave of Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib at the Banani Graveyard on the occasion of her 85th birth anniversary.
Replying to another question, the senior minister said no general polls will be held in Bangladesh until the tenure of the incumbent government ends as no such situation has been created here that demands any midterm election.
Meanwhile, Tofail Ahmed attended a discussion of Awami Swechchhasebok League (SL) in front of the Bangabandhu Bhaban as part of the birth anniversary programme of Begum Mujib, life partner of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, also assassinated on the fateful August 15 in 1975.
Speaking on the occasion, he said BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia deterred the development progress of the country through unleashing destructive activities in the name of anti-government movement during 92 days and he must face the trial of people’s court for her misdeeds.
He said the trend of country’s export income faced a setback in that period due to arson and petrol bomb attacks in the name of blockade and hartal.
“The destructive activities of BNP-Jama’at also tarnished country’s image in the international arena,” the senior politician also added.
Tofail called upon to forge unity against the evil forces who are trying to create unrest and anarchy across the country in many ways.
SL president Molla M Abu Kawsar presided over the meeting while Awami League organizing secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, MP, and SL general secretary Pankaj Debnath, among others, spoke on the occasion.
