Toby Radford has been appointed head coach of the High Performance (HP) team of Bangladesh for one year. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) disclosed the matter on Wednesday.
Toby Radford was the assistant batting and bowling coach of West Indies. His first assignment with the HP team will be the tour in Sri Lanka in September-October, where they will play a bilateral series with their Sri Lankan opponents. The HP team will play some warm-up matches against Bangladesh National Cricket team in Sri Lanka.
Radford’s agreement with the BCB for one year began from August 2020, the board said in a press release on Wednesday.
The 48-year old English born Radford played 14 first class and six List A matches for Middlesex and Sussex in between 1994-1999. As a right-hand batsman, he may not have a great career in county cricket but as a coach, he is successful and performed various roles to enrich his CV.
An England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Level 4 coach, Radford was the West Indies senior team’s batting and assistant coach on two occasions (2012-13 and 2016-2019).
He has also performed the role of Head Coach of Glamorgan and Middlesex in the English County Championship. Radford carries comprehensive experience as a consultant for ECB and West Indies Cricket. He was the former director of West Indies Cricket High Performance Centre, director academy of Middlesex County Cricket Club and has coached England’s Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 teams.
Radford said he was looking forward to his new assignment with excitement.
“I am delighted to be appointed as head coach of High Performance team of Bangladesh,” he said.
“Bangladesh has many talented young cricketers and it will be a privilege to work with, and help develop them in their journey to consistent success at international level.
“I would like to thank the BCB for this wonderful opportunity for me to help shape their players of the future. I can’t wait to get started.”
