To make activities of Mongla Port viable aims at Hanging bridge to be built on Mongla River

 Talukdar Abdul Khalek, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 (Rampal-Mongla) while was speaking as the Chief Guest in a social gathering at Mongla Port with Abu Taher Hawladar, Chairman o, Mongla Upazila Parishad in the chair on Friday he told, economic viability of south-west region will be increased to a greater extent, trade, commerce and industries of the area will be developed, importance of Mongla port town will be enhanced as a tourist spot, carrying of food grains from newly constructed silo at Joymoni wll be eased, communication and infrastructures of Mongla Port town will be upgraded and consequently, the urbanization and the living standard of people of Mongla will be developed.
The gathering was held in connection with the selection of the place for the construction of the proposed hanging bridge over the river Mongla that separates Mongla port from Mongla Upazila headquarters.
Md. Anisuzzaman, Executive Engineer of Roads and Highways of Bagerhat told the gathering as the special guest, at a cost of about Tk.3.5 crores a bridge will be constructed over the river Mongla as the 10th Bangladesh-Chaina Maitry (friendship) bridge. He added that the construction of the bridge would be started very soon as a hanging bridge. The gathering was also addressed among others by Shaikh Lutfor Rahman, Officer-in-charge of Mongla PS, Md. Ibrahim Hossain, former general secretary of Mongla Upazila Awami League, Md. Nur Alam Shaikh, Upaziala Vicep-chairman of Mongla, Nikhil Ranjan Roy, UP Chairman of Burirdanga and UP Chairman Israfil Hossain Hawladar. After the gathering was over Talukdar Abdul Khalek MP of Rampal-Mongla constituency visited Buirirdanga bazar and Bisharkhali, 2 sides of the river Mongla on spot and selected the place as the tentative side for the construction of the proposed bridge.
