In a talk show of DBC Tv on Monday night Barrister Mainul Hosein has expressed deep concern and wondered why freedom fighters do not talk of freedom when people’s freedoms are under threat. There is fear that anything could happen to anybody.
He felt strongly to say that like Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury if fifty brave freedom fighters could raise their voice in favour of people’s freedom things would be different in the politics of the country.
He identified anarchy in the government as a serious problem. It needs discipline. The judiciary, Bangladesh Bank, Anti-Corruption Commission, police or any other authority cannot function independently. The government interferes. The authorities also meekly oblige with no sense of independence.
Barrister Mainul asserted that if we could be so subservient no liberation war would have been necessary.
In answer to minus formula in politics he said nobody can minus a political leader, an deserving political leader is rejected by the people in a free and fair election.
He has repeated that one-eleven government had no interest in any minus formula against Sheikh Hasina or Begum Khaleda Zia. We did not take part in the election, so we had no reason for excluding them either.
He further said, “We want our right to have free election for electing our government. The elected government nowhere remains in power under parliamentary system for holding free election. We are not against either of Sheikh Hasina or Begum Khaleda Zia, the point is that the country must have competent political leadership.”
The other participant was freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury who believes in the existence of a conspiracy to minus Begum Khaleda Zia but he refuses to accept that she will agree to go abroad for treatment. He supported that she should get hospitalised for proper treatment. He was not happy with composition of the medical board.
He was very critical of the Supreme Court for refusing bail to Begum Khaleda Zia. He finds discrimination.
Dr Zafrullah is also of the view that our problems should be solved through free and fair election. Free election is a must, he emphasised.
The programme was moderated by Nobonita Chowdhury.
