Rescue workers have come upon more than Tk 100,000 from under the ruins of Tampaco Foils Ltd in Tongi, the factory that caught a fatal fire on Sept 10.
Tongi police Sub-Inspector Sumon Bhokto told this news agency that Tk 7,000 was found burnt while Tk 102,755 was recovered from inside the gutted factory on Friday. However, the workers did
not recover any body, he said. “A list of goods found inside the factory, including bed, dining table, and chairs, is being made,” said Bhokto. The retrieved goods had been kept in the custody of Gazipur City Corporation, he added.
Fire Service and army personnel have been conducting a rescue operation for the last seven days in search of 10 workers who are still missing. They have removed wreckage weighing 800 tonnes and 80 empty drums from the factory so far, SI Bhokto said. The deadly fire was generated through a boiler explosion early on Sept 10 causing the five-storey building to collapse. The death toll from the incident stands at 34 so far, while 40 have been injured.
