Tk 9.81 lakh realised in fine for traffic rules violation in city

The Traffic Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a drive in the city filed 2246 cases and collected Tk 9.81 lakh as fine on Friday for violating traffic rules.
Besides, 36 vehicles were dumped and 332 others were put on the wrecker during the day-long drive.
Traffic Department Sources said its members filed cases against vehicles on various charges including violation of traffic rules, using hydraulic horn, beacon light, dark-tinted glass, as well as for plying the vehicles on the wrong side of the road. Among the cases, 161 were filed for plying the vehicles on the wrong side of the road, 53 for using hydraulic horns, three for beacon light and eight for using dark-tinted glass.
Besides, cases were also filed against 620 motorcycles for violating traffic rules and 38 other motor cycles were also seized during the time, said a senior police officer preferring anonymity.
The Traffic Department of the DMP has been conducting special drive as part of its routine work, he said.
