Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :
An electric cable was stolen from two lever cranes of under construction Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. The cost of the cable stolen from the 126-wheeled crane specially made for the project is Tk 65 lakh.
A case was registered at Pabna’s Ishwardi police station around 11pm on Wednesday. VN Turutin, the project’s Director of Security, filed the lawsuit.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman Asad confirmed the matter. Last Thursday at the monthly meeting of the Upazila Law and Order Committee, the issue of theft in the KPI-affiliated project area was discussed in detail.
According to the details of the case, the cables were kept inside the Rooppur project during the inspection till December 30. But on January 9, during the mechanical inspection of the two lever cranes on the ship again, 265 meters important cable was not found. Since then, loading and unloading of goods at the jetty built for Rooppur project has been irregular.
According to project sources, the cables were stolen from the crane between December 30 and January 9. But even though so much money has been lost, many people in the project do not want to open their mouths about it.
Ashraful Islam, site engineer of Rooppur project, said theft was not a normal occurrence. Each subcontractor has its own security here. There are also security agencies. The main contractor Rosatom also has some responsibilities.
Regarding the theft, the OC said that those involved in the theft of the cable of the crane, it is thought that they may have been traveling there regularly. SI Atiqul Islam, in-charge of Rooppur police outpost, has been assigned to investigate the case.
