A defamation case has been filed against Journalist Touhid Akhter Panna (SM Akhter), President of Ishwardi Upazila Press Club, Staff Reporter of Dainik Janakantha, the Bangla TV and the New Nation.
To this, a protest meeting was organised at Ishwardi Upazila Press Club on Thusday night. Hasina Banu, wife of freedom fighter Shamsul Haque in a written statement sought the intervention of the Prime Minister for justice.
Shahina Akhter, the tortured wife of the late businessman Azizul Haque, Bushra, and Hiron, the son of the freedom fighter Shamsul Haque were present. They said that about seven years ago, brother-in-law M N Islam was harassing Hasina in various ways by not registering the land of her and younger brother’s wife Shahina Akter
In this situation, on August 23, M N Islam did not appear in person. Rather he filed a case against six persons including Hasina Banu and his younger brother’s wife Shahina Akter, General Secretary of Ishwardi Upazila Press Club.
The speakers said that journalist Touhid Akter Panna(SM.Akter) has no connection with our family and never interfered in any of our affairs. False charges have been filed against him just to socially humiliate him.
At this, Panna has been socially defamed by indicting her an accused in this case. Protesting against the false case, the freedom fighter’s wife Hasina Banu, widow Shahina Akhter, orphan daughter Bushra and other members of the freedom fighter’s family demanded proper justice, exemplary punishment and urgent intervention of the Prime Minister.
