A gang of unidentified miscreants snatched at least Tk 4.75 lakh from a businessman by clobbering him with an iron rod in the city’s Matuail area on Monday afternoon. The victim was identified as Hafizur Rahman, 40, a rod and cement trader, police said.
Quoting the witnesses, Jatrabari Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Noorjahan said that a gang of miscreants intercepted Hafizur on the way to his office Tuhin Enterprise at Matuail area around 1:45pm. A sum of on 4.75 lakh was with him, while he collected from his business agents.The criminals asked for money, but Hafizur was unmoved. At this they walloped him with an iron rod and snatched the money. Hafizur was sent to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), the police official said. Police are investigating the matter, she said.
