The Senate of Dhaka University (DU) approved the annual budget for Tk 373.88 crore for the fiscal year 2014-15 on Thursday.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the senate meeting while the senate members of all categories except students’ representative were present at that time.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) will fund Tk 323.50 crore while the university will provide Tk 32 crore from its own sources. The budget deficit is Tk 18.35 crore.
The lion’s share of the budget i.e. Tk 240.71(68.38%) crore will be spent on the salaries of
teachers and officials. But Tk 32.90 crore only has been allocated for the education and Tk three crore for the research sector.
The Senate allocated Tk 50 lakh for the poor students only as stipends for the first time in the history of Dhaka University.
