Tk 3250cr Ctg Elevated Expressway project gets Ecnec nod

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Tuesday approved the Elevated Expressway project from Lalkhan Bazar to Shah Amanat Airport in Chittagong involving Tk 3250.84 crore, aiming to ease communication from the airport and reduce traffic gridlock in the city.
The approval came from the regular Ecnec meeting held at the NEC conference room with its Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said a total of nine projects were approved at the meeting at an estimated cost of Tk 6,393.18 crore.
Of the total project cost, Tk 5,905.73 crore will come from the national exchequer while Tk 57.03 crore from the organisations’ own fund and the rest of Tk 430.42 crore will come as project assistance.
The other projects include Panchdona-Ghorashal road development project, Bangladesh Power System Reliability and Efficiency Improvement Project, Agriculture census-2018 project, re-excavation of a number of rivers, including Airal Khan, Haridoa and Brahmaputra under Narsingdi, developing the water supply process and environmental sanitation in three municipalities of Jamalpur and increasing the capability of Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences in seven divisions.
Work on the Elevated Expressway project in Chittagong will start in July, 2017 and end in June, 2020.
The project will be implemented by Chittagong Unnayan Katripakkha under the jurisdiction of the Housing and Public Works Ministry..
